Hummingbird 

Canada has 5 species of hummingbirds. The rufous hummingbird is one of the most common ones in Canada. Hummingbirds are mostly solitary. And can be quite territorial around their feeding. They can fly upto 25 miles per hour and during courtship up to an impressive 50. The average lifespan of a hummingbird is as short as 3 years and as long as 11 years depending on the species. They are very tiny and as adults weigh only 3.5 grams. The males have the most brightly coloured iridescent feathers to attract a mate. After migration they will return to the same area and even the same feeder. They do not mate for life and the females have full responsibility for building the nest and bringing up their young. Hummingbirds are always on the edge of survival as they can die within 5 hours without food. These tiny creatures bring a lot of joy to humans
